How much memory does creative work really need?

Capacity first, then speed — and why one matched kit beats two.

Capacity before speed

Running out of memory forces the system to use storage as overflow, which is dramatically slower than any difference between memory speeds.

As a rule of thumb: 32 GB covers gaming and light editing; 64 GB suits 4K timelines and large photo libraries; 96 GB or more is for heavy 3D scenes, simulation and virtual machines.

One matched kit

Memory is validated in kits. Combining two separate kits — even identical models — can prevent the system from running at the kit's rated speed. The configurator warns when kits are mixed.

If you expect to expand later, start with a larger two-module kit rather than planning to add more modules.
